Cafe bars

You don’t have to be rich to be happy, but it does help if you’re planning a night out in Monaco. Having said that, a  bit of forward planning should prevent you having to win a small fortune at the casino before setting out. While the principality is not over-endowed with traditional cafes and bars, we include a selection of venues that are worth searching out.

You'll need formal evening wear at the famous Le Jimmy’z on the Quai Princesse-Grace. It is the haunt of the wealthy, including those from the world of film and entertainment, but is a unique experience. You need to make a reservation – call 00-377 92 16 22 77. After leaving Jimmy’z, those in the know head off to The Living Room Club, a high-class late night venue, with champagne or cocktails the drinks of choice. A pianist and a DJ provide the music.

Also in the luxury class is La Terrace at the Bar du Vistamar. It has seen many famous celebrities and the drinks again focus on champagne cocktails. The Sass Cafe, which opens from 11pm until dawn (although the restaurant does open at 8pm) also features cocktails, champagne and a piano bar.

If you’re looking for something less formal, try the Stars ‘N’ Bars, an American style bar that’s very popular. Here you can drink beer and eat a burger before dancing through the night. There are regular rock concerts, so keep an eye out for notices during your stay. There is even a supervised play area for children, while the terrace has views over the port.
