Nearby trips

With an excellent train service running along the Riviera coast, there's easy access from Monaco to the city of Nice and resorts such as Antibes and Cannes to the west and Menton to the east.

Monaco trips to Nice

Nice is the Queen of the Riviera and the capital city of the Côte d'Azur. Just 15 minutes by train from Monaco and has been home to artists like Matisse, giving the resort a touch of cultural class. It is also home to some of the world's leading galleries and museums. Food lovers will delight in the food market, the quaint cafes, and the huge selection of restaurants.

The Nice resort is split in two by the Paillon, a river torrent that runs to the sea, often underground. To the west is the elegant modern city where most of the hotels can be found; to the east is the old city, with its narrow alleys and enticing shops, cafes and bars. The old town is also home to the attractive port and the castle hill. The Promenade des Anglais separates the city from the beach and makes for a perfect seaside stroll.

Monaco trips to Antibes

An easy train ride from Monaco via Nice, Antibes and nearby Juan-les-Pins boast 48 beaches plus the Picasso Museum that is one of four great museums in Europe dedicated to his work. The artist spent many summers in the resort and painted many works here.

For those that enjoy yacht harbours, Port Vauban in Antibes is the largest in Europe with more than 2,000 moorings. Over a thousand more boats are docked in other Antibes marinas. There's a very pleasant stroll along the town's ramparts to the archaeological museum, returning back through the streets of Antibes.

Monaco trips to Cannes

Cannes is the quintessential Riviera resort with an elegant seafront - Boulevard de la Croisette - with palm trees, gardens, luxury hotels and a fine sandy beach.

To the east of the port is the Festival and Conference Centre, with the resort's casino. The International Film Festival has attracted stars, and many would-be stars, posing on the beach during Festival time.

Monaco trips to Eze

Just 9km from Monaco, Eze is a medieval village perched on a narrow rocky peak with panoramic views of the coast and the Mediterranean. The fortified village is still dominated by the ruins of its castle while the castle grounds are home to Jardin Exotique.

The village is a popular tourist trip from all the Riviera resorts and can get packed. It has souvenir shops galore to satisfy the crowds. Frederic Niettzsche spent many summers here and the path connecting the village with the beach carries his name.

Monaco trips to Menton

Menton, on the border with Italy, is a short train or car journey from Monaco. The attractive French resort is backed by terraced slopes. It's famous for its lemons and is a popular resort with a well preserved old town, a port still used by local fishermen and extensive gardens. You can even stroll across the border into Italy.
